CIIR's WTO Wish Tree at Greenbelt '05

CIIR staff took the MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY Dream Tree to Greenbelt '05 (26 to 29 August 2005). The tree, first used at the MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY march in Edinburgh, offered festival goers the opportunity to express their wishes for a better future for the WTO Ministerial meeting in Hong Kong in December 2005.

Make trade fair.
Keith

Think about poorer countries, not your own economy.
Andy

I wish that all people could be treated equally - especially in trade.

Tessa Wilkinson

Give everyone a fair chance to earn an honest living.

Prof John Fielding

Please use your influence to make poverty history. Make trade fair!
David Brayshaw - Reading

Make trade fair for all of the traders and farmers. Make it fair for rich and poor alike.
Michaela Baker

FAIR trade not FREE trade! Thank you for your efforts.
Pam Fielding - Newport

Fair trade rather than free trade.
Tracey Elliott

Unfair trade has gone on too long. It's time the WTO used the power it has for utilitarian good rather than for the selfish, rich minority.
Haydn Spenceley - Northampton

Think about the poor and allow them to live healthy lives.

Aimeé Sinon Lancing

Please allow special products to be a meaningful designation and don't ask for reciprocity. Please make trade fair.
Maranda St John Nicolle

More fair trade available to all.
Lucy and Emma Edwards

The WTO should pay more attention to the voices of the developing countries.
Caroline

I wish that the rules of trade would have as their primary purpose the eradication of poverty - today.
Gill Kubble

I want good news for the poor - please make trade fair.
Greg

Make trade fair, not free.
Julie and Sam

I urge the WTO to ensure that trade justice is achieved for the poor. Stop giving unfair and extortionate sudsidies to growers in rich, wealthy countries which undermine the efforts of developing nations.

Fair trade, not just aid.

Grace and Lorna

I believe that there should be equality in world trade. This is being stopped by western selfish quotas and unfair import duties. Why are western governments scared of FULL free trade?

Jonathan Gray - Wirral

Trade subsidies make people poor - in a roundabout kind of way. I wish they would end!

Ru, Angus and Ben - Wakefield
Dear WTO,
Please make the USA actually STOP agricultural subsidies and not just pretend. Thanks.
Lucy Catheart - Glasgow
What happened to Kyoto? What happened to the Bikini Islands? Make the responsibles responsible.
Martin Froden - Norrkoping

To WTO: Think big. Think bold. Make the changes for a better world.
Sam and Robin Pointon

Let there be more fair trade and let's make people have fairer lives.
Rosie and Sarah

Fair trade not free trade - PLEASE.
Elspeth Chantler

Fair trade for all.

Elizabeth Jenkins

Please help to get things balanced out and make trade fair!
Matt Lacey - Wirral
Fair sharing for all nations.
Rev David Alderman

Give the hardworking people a real chance to earn the money they deserve - let's not line the big corps' pockets.

Deanie Donut

Trade should be FAIR across the globe - not dictated by those who are rich already! With all the money we have in the West, why do we still cripple others with debt?
Helen Bryant - Wakefield
Us rich people need to give up only a little in order for the poor to be able to enjoy some LIFE.

Jill
Please give the world a present! Make trade fair.

Philip Crispin
