CIIR at the G8
It was a great day at the MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY event in Edinburgh today. More than 200,000 turn up, which is twice the amount initially planned. It was so packed that the march just came to a gridlock in the afternoon!
Overall, it was extremely well organised and carried out. The speakers were very good, the bands too, and the atmosphere was great. Really friendly and fun. We'll now have to see whether the G8 respond to such a massive mobilisation. But whatever the outcome of the G8, we, as development agencies and campaigners, need to ensure that the momentum continues and that more and more people are aware of the scandal of world poverty.
